Kindergarten Armenian Language Curriculum


The Armenian language curriculum for the Kindergarten Level at ASA is based on the “Our Language” text book in Armenian and the following key steps:

  1. Alphabet Visual Recognition

  2. Phonics for Armenian Alphabets

  3. Word pronunciations

  4. Vocabulary

  5. Basic alphabet writing, lettering and penmanship

During the year the students are introduced over time to the 38 alphabet letters in upper and lower cases. However the writing is primarily in lower case.

Also the role of punctuations in Armenian language is introduced on a general basis.

“Our Language” text book is comprised of three volumes, and each volume contains four Chapters, for the total of twelve Chapters. Each chapter is a based on a main theme story that depicts visualization of the story as well as the relevant feature alphabets imbedded in a story poem. Preliminary Chapters feature three alphabets and the latte chapters cover four to five alphabets each.

With advancement of the chapters and knowledge base of alphabets, word building and sentence composition exercise begin to take place.

During each session, there is a writing practice and review of the story book pictures.

Also during the course of the year, the pupils practice in the following areas:

  • Number Counting ( pronunciation and writing from 0-100)

  • Addition and subtraction 1 to 10

  • Names of the body parts

  • Fingers (i.e. index, thumb, etc.)

  • Shapes

  • Colors

  • Sizes

  • Four Seasons

  • Months of the Year

  • Daily Calendar

  • Days of the week

  • Time of the day(i.e. morning, afternoon, etc.)

  • Domestic pets and wild animals

  • Prayer in Armenian and significant religious days

  • Handcrafts, paintings and classroom activities
